Reuters reports pending Chinese delivery of shoulder-fired air defence launchers to Iran; China and Pakistan deny it
On July 28, 2026, Reuters reported that Iran was expected to receive within weeks a first shipment of up to 400 Chinese-made shoulder-fired air defence missile launchers of the QW-12 and FN-16 types, in a purchase valued at 60 to 70 million United States dollars, citing three sources familiar with the deal who spoke on condition of anonymity. Reuters reported the weapons would be flown from Urumqi in western China and transit Pakistan, naming a Hong Kong company as intermediary. China's foreign ministry said the reports were completely groundless. Pakistan's military said speculation that Pakistan was involved in supplying air defence weapons to Iran from China was absolutely concocted and false.
